The world was in awe on Sunday as Argentina won the 2022 World Cup final against France in a match that ended in a 3-3 tie and went to a penalty shootout. Argentina's victory is their third World Cup win and their first in 36 years, providing a moment of joy and celebration for a country facing economic and political uncertainty. The match is likely to be remembered as one of the greatest in World Cup history, with fans and players alike expressing their emotions at its conclusion...I lost my voice while shouting MESSI MESSI MESSI and GOAL GOAL GOAL at my local pub at 7:30am this morning.
Messi's career may make him the GOAT but let's digress and remember that this is a "business" based newsletter:
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar is expected to be the most expensive in history, with the country estimated to have spent as much as $220 billion in the 12 years since being chosen as host.
David Beckham was reportedly paid $277 million by Qatar to serve as an ambassador for the World Cup, (I what the fuck?? hahah) meanwhile the total prize pool for the event is $440 million, with FIFA expecting to bring in $4.7 billion in revenue. It is estimated that $1.8 billion will be gambled on the World Cup in the US alone.
The prize money for the World Cup has significantly increased over the years, with the winners of the 1982 World Cup receiving $2.2 million and the winners of the 2006 World Cup receiving $20 million.
Elon to Step down as twitter CEO?
Elon Musk recently ran a Twitter poll asking users whether he should step down as CEO of the platform. As of writing, 58% of voters have said he should leave.
The poll is set to run for 12 hours, with the results expected on Monday.
Musk has a history of making important business decisions based on Twitter polls, including lifting Donald Trump's suspension and reinstating journalists he had suspended.
Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.

Elon Musk is reportedly trying to raise more equity for Twitter before the end of the year, despite the company's financial struggles and the high price he paid to take it private.
Musk's bankers tested the market for a leverage loan for the acquisition, but only received 60 cents in the dollar, indicating that Twitter's debt may be worth less than its face value and that its equity may be worthless. (Oh Shit)
Our Take: Every person who has ever bet against Elon has lost. This man is driven beyond most men and his mindset reminds me of Michael Jordan. We should hope for his success as opposed to his downfall...but he's still an asshole. Bullish AF on twit
America is having a FIRE Sale
The stock market has struggled, with the Standard & Poor's 500 Index down about 17% since the beginning of the year, the Nasdaq Composite down about 30%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 7%. Riskier investments have performed worse, with high-growth stocks and cryptocurrency seeing significant drops. There is uncertainty about whether the Fed will do too much or too little and whether this has already been priced into stocks, which has contributed to market volatility. AKA everything you know and love is on or becoming on sale. Remember when you were wishing you could've bought bitcoin back in 2019? well guess what...you can today 😅

The stock market experienced a poor performance last week, leading to concerns about a potential recession.
The Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates by 50bps did not address the gap between inflation and the Fed's 2% goal.
The arrest of Sam Bankman-Fried has led to increased skepticism of cryptocurrency, with $6 billion being withdrawn from Binance alone (Yikes).
The EU and US have agreed to implement a price cap on Russian crude oil, and the EU will discuss a price cap on natural gas. The WTO will hold a general council meeting in Geneva, but trade is facing significant challenges due to global tensions.
