Whole lotta Bro's

  • This year (2022), the world's population hit a new milestone: the eighth billionth person was born. Can you believe it? In just 48 years, the number of people on the planet has doubled from four billion to eight billion. - Here is a chart provided by Visual Capitalist that gives us a breakdown of how that population of Bro's looks across each country.

Cultural happenings

Soccer legend Pele passed away at 82 on Thursday. In his 2015 memoir, Why Soccer Matters, Pele explored the humanitarian aim that marked his career and post-retirement work, and the uplifting power of soccer. The book begins with Pelé's early childhood in São Paulo, Brazil, and how he developed a deep love for soccer through pickup games on the street. Pelé also writes about Brazil's 1950 World Cup loss to Uruguay and how it brought rich and poor together and created a common story of what it meant to be Brazilian. Pelé's father, Dondinho, was a professional soccer player who taught Pelé almost everything he knew about the sport. Pelé made a promise to his father that he would win the World Cup for him, a promise he fulfilled by winning the tournament three times. RIP to a legend.

Rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean ALONE. That's what Mariam Payne is doing to celebrate her new year. The race is called the "Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge" where teams/individuals compete against each other in the wildest endurance spectacle that I would never wish upon my worst enemy. Here is Mariam's TikTok if you wanna check for updates.

Bro Briefing:

Open AI - A Closer Look

Artificial Intelligence is all the buzz of 2022, with the company "Open AI" leading the charge:

The What: OpenAI is a research organization that aims to advance artificial intelligence in a safe and responsible manner, with the goal of promoting and protecting the public good.

The Who: OpenAI was founded in 2015 by a group of entrepreneurs, researchers, and philanthropists, including Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, Wojciech Zaremba, John Schulman, and Pieter Abbeel.

Open AI Tools that are available to the public:

  • ChatGPT - is like a robot that can have a conversation with you. Just like a robot, ChatGPT can understand what you say and respond in a way that makes sense. But unlike a real robot, ChatGPT is not a physical machine, it is a computer program. Just like how a toy car can be controlled by a remote, ChatGPT can be controlled through a chat or messaging system.

  • DALL-E can be thought of as a tool that can "draw" images based on a description provided in the text, similar to how an artist might create a drawing based on a verbal description of what they are asked to draw (the prompt is literally what I typed)

  • Robotics: Tools that can perform tasks that are difficult or impossible for humans, or tasks that are dangerous for humans to perform. P.S. I still cannot solve a Rubik's cube, but now I'll never have to learn.

  • Computer vision: Tools that allow computers to "see" and understand the visual world, similar to how a person's eyes and brain allow them to see and understand their surroundings. Can be used for tasks such as image classification and object detection.

Right bro, but why does this matter? The impact of artificial intelligence cannot be overstated. It is set to revolutionize industries across the globe by automating processes and increasing efficiency. This disruption will have far-reaching consequences, transforming the way we work and live. We will do our best to stay informed about the latest developments and keep you updated with these how one can utilize AI to positively impact your own life! If you want to learn more mess around with the tools yourself (linked above) or here is a complete in-depth breakdown of AI.
